Singer Songwriter Showcase featuring Karen Shook
Our 4th Featured Artist in the Singer Songwriter Showcase is the lovely Karen Shook! We just adore this very talented soul. April 25th she’ll be singing her heart out for you in the swanky Lou’s Lounge, The Historic Dole’s prohibition-era Speakeasy!
Karen was born on Chicago's south side, the second of eleven kids. Her roots are planted in blues and soul. She was set afire by Sarah Vaughan, The Indigo Girls, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Brandi Carlile, and Cyndi Lauper.
She spent time working as a kids music teacher at the famed Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, collaborated on various recording projects, and variety shows, commercial spots for radio and has fond memories of starting it all on a kids music variety television show on what was WCFC Chicago.
Karen plays heart opening original songs and hundreds of cover songs from Johnny Cash to Bob Marley, Dolly Parton to The Beatles... all The Feel Good Songs.

Our Indoor Market+ is a smaller version of our 5X Award-Winning Farmers Market with 50+ farmers, food purveyors and a few artisans. Most of our farmers & vendors indoors are also in our outdoor market, so you are bound to still find your favorites! This historic property is a unique and perfect setting for a “Sip and Shop” Sunday experience with live music each week, brunch beverages that pair deliciously with either breakfast or lunch options served throughout the indoor market season! Plus a big-screen TV featuring sports located in the bar area. We are not a typical Farmers Market, which is why we have a “plus” in our name! Our goal is to offer you more!

Service League of CL: Celebrating 100 Years of Service in Crystal Lake
Celebrating 100 Years of service to Crystal Lake families!
The Service League of Crystal Lake began at The Dole in 1925.
In 1922, the abandoned Dole Mansion had been purchased and transformed into the original Crystal Lake Country Club, thanks to Eliza Louise Ringling and her investors.
By 1925 the “South Shore Sewing Circle” would gather in the Mansion, in a second floor bedroom, which was now a guest suite for club members, and make clothing items for local families in need.
The South Shore Sewing Circle evolved into Service League of Crystal Lake and The Dole is where it all began!
100 years later, the organization of 45 women/volunteers, continues to offer financial assistance to local families in need. They are able to do this thru fundraising efforts such as Fashion Show, House-walk, Casino Night, and Holiday Gala, as well as partnering with The Dole and providing volunteers for Farmers Market+. It truly does “take a village” and Service League of Crystal Lake and The Dole have collaborated to bring the community a fabulous celebration honoring our history’s together!

The Groove McSmith ORGANization, is a four-piece ensemble that features the Hammond organ sound that was popularized by artists such as Groove Holmes and Jimmy Smith (hence the name) in the 1950's and 60's. The band consists of organ, guitar, sax and drums. The repertoire ranges from Brazilian Bossa Nova to Jazz standards to 60's "boo-ga-loo" grooves and even the occasional blues or pop song.

Welcome back to Lou’s Lounge Allie!
Allie Hulen graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in Music Education. She teaches in elementary general music in Crystal Lake School District #47 and teaches piano and guitar lessons at Encore Music Academy. Allie loves to write songs and explore how songwriting can be a tool for self-expression, human connection, and learning! She performs as a local artist for Encore Music Academy and at other local venues. Her goal as a musician is to provide quality musical experiences for listeners - that they might build connections between themselves and the musical world around them. “

Kicking off Singer Songwriter Showcase in 2025 in Lou’s Lounge At The Dole is Chase Ventrella!
January kicks off our Artistic Series following NMP 4th Friday Art Show, featuring Singer-Songwriter Chase Ventrella. Chase is multi-talented writing his own originals and performing on several instruments. He was originally inspired by his grandfather, and started playing the saxophone in elementary school, the guitar at age 12 and the piano at 18. Since then, he has dabbled at just about every instrument he can get his hands on. He released his first album in 2015. You can enjoy this artist at work right here at The Dole in Lou’s Lounge!
For those attending NMP’s 4th Friday, the Art show ticket includes entry to Lou’s Singer/Songwriter Showcase.
$5 Entry to those only attending the Live Music portion of the evening from 8-11pm.

4th Fridays is made possible by a large culture of committed volunteers who believe that keeping the arts alive and thriving in a community is beyond important. And doing that in a fresh + fun innovative monthly art event in an historic venue is one really great way to do that!
